Last month, I had the privilege of being a part of a very special birthday dinner. My friend Laura asked me to photograph her grandmother, Nell's, family tradition of always making her own birthday dinner and birthday cake; and it is no small affair! The family brings sides to share, but Nell does the majority of the cooking. There was so much delicious food! It was fun to watch this woman quietly work around her kitchen, making sure that everyone had enough food to eat, all the while serving and loving her family in this way. What a sweet gift!
